March 5th, 2014
One year ago today I landed in an airport in Westchester, New York. The last 8 weeks went a lot faster than the MTC (Missionary Training Center) did, that's for sure.
Xxx Xxx got confirmed at the end of Sacrament Meeting last Sunday. It's really stressful when the sacrament has already been passed and your recently-baptized-but-not-confirmed new convert hasn't showed up yet. He came about 20 minutes before Sacrament Meeting ended. His bus from [his home out of state] was a bit slower than usual.
We didn't run to the Chrysler building last Saturday, we only made it to 34th street before we had to turn back (4 miles total) but we are planning on making that run to Chrysler this Saturday, weather and my body permitting.
We now have 3 recent converts who have expressed desires to serve missions. If it all works out, I might get to see three missionaries leave from this ward before I go home. To give you an idea of how monumental that would be for the ward, the last and only missionary to ever come from Chinatown Manhattan was a sister back in 2009 who served in Florida. She now lives in Queens and attends a ward there, so we never see her, she just has a plaque on the wall. To get 3 Elders, all baptized since I came into the field, to go on missions before I went home would be huge. The first one hits his year mark for baptism in May, the second in Sept, and the last in Dec, but the one for December seems the most excited for it.
I just ate at a REALLY expensive Chinese restaurant. Super tasty, but I'm going to be eating dollar buns for the next week or two to get back in control of my budget. In the meantime, elder Zander is attending The Lion King Musical on Broadway, so we are spending a ton of money today.
We get to go to the temple again on Saturday, we have a member going through for the first time, so we were invited to the Mandarin [language] session.
Xxx Xxx Xxxx is getting baptized on Sunday! He's taken a while, he was found by Elder William's trainer, just to give you a sense for how long missionaries have been working with him. [Elder Williams was Jacob's trainer.]
Love you lots, really looking for Spring, because this Winter has taken a while.
Your son in service,
Elder Christensen
